JST realises "technical luxury class" with Fleet Operations Center

JST Carnival Maritime: Fleet Operation Center with Jungmann furniture

JST control room: From the Hamburg Fleet Operations Center, the 25 cruise ships of the AIDA and Costa fleet are supported around the clock by experienced navigators.

Discover a new world every day, new people, new countries and in between always find time to relax on board a cruise ship. To make holiday dreams come true on the ships of the AIDA and Costa fleet, a highly qualified team of nautical experts watches over the 25 ships of the Costa Group in the background. A Marine Operations Unit with a central Fleet Operations Center (FOC) was created in Hamburg under the name “Carnival Maritime”. JST – Jungmann Systemtechnik® provided support in setting up the FOCs.

A busy port in Singapore? A cruise ship with more than a thousand holidaymakers that cannot enter the port on the predetermined corridor? In such a case, the employees in the Hamburg FOC of the Costa Group immediately receive a corresponding warning. Via acoustic and visual alarms, the control center is informed in real time about the course deviation and can take appropriate measures if necessary.

We offer best service and at the same time a maximum of security

The operator team, which consists exclusively of experienced navigators, checks and evaluates radar data, courses, speeds, positions and routes of the ships. The operator team supports the vessels 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from Hamburg. Of course, the guests do not notice anything. But that’s exactly what it’s all about, explains Michael Salzmann, Senior Superintendent of the FOC: “We are a shipping company and a tourism provider at the same time. We offer unique holidays with the best service and at the same time we want to provide the highest level of security. ”

"We needed someone who really knew their stuff."

To meet this demand, the company has joined forces with the experts from Jungmann Systemtechnik. Michael Salzmann remembers the first meetings with JST: “We needed someone who really knew his way around, was well versed in the field and was able to implement our project within a very short time. We also liked the design.”

Ergonomics of the equipment leaves nothing to be desired

Within only three months, the optimal conditions for the FOC were jointly created. The result: large display walls on which all ships are in the sights of the operator crew, furniture that leaves nothing to be desired in terms of ergonomics, and last but not least a control center that also has a representative character due to the many visitors from politics and business.

"Ideal partner" to achieve perfect results

“JST was the ideal partner for us to quickly achieve perfect results – the technical top class,” sums up Michael Salzmann, who not only praises the implementation and quality of the joint project, but especially emphasises the pleasant cooperation with the Jungmann employees.
