Modern software solutions are indispensable for control room management. As a qualified partner for the installation and modernisation of control rooms, the handling of complex control room infrastructures and systems has been a key area of expertise at JST – Jungmann Systemtechnik® for decades. We combine in-depth technological expertise with innovative concepts for greater ease of use, security and efficiency. Intelligent software is the key to smooth processes in 24/7 operations. User-friendly interfaces and flexible automation options make the operator’s work much easier in the long term.
Our software engineers incorporate practical experience from hundreds of control room projects into their developments. Continuous user feedback ensures ongoing updates and performance improvements. We know that only close contact and dialogue with users can create an understanding of the operator’s perspective. This results in software that guarantees performance and future-proofing.
Greater clarity, less risk: clever software brings innovation to the control room
Everything comes together in the control room – countless data sources, control signals and status information converge here in real time. To ensure that clear decisions can be made despite this complexity, software solutions are needed that create structure, map processes and minimise risks. We asked Rafael Paltian, control room software expert at JST – Jungmann Systemtechnik®. How are modern applications changing everyday work in the control room?
Software expert Rafael Paltian sees automation and assistance functions as the future of control rooms. He is focusing on intelligent systems that relieve the burden on humans without replacing them.
What characterises software that has been specially developed for control rooms?
Rafael Paltian: Control station software differs from conventional visualisation or monitoring tools primarily in terms of its range of functions and robustness. It must bring together all relevant sources and systems, such as KVM streams, process data and alarm signals, on one uniform interface. This creates a kind of control hub, making it possible to reliably manage complex processes and maintain an overview at all times. Our myGUI® platform has established itself in this sector as a conceptually well-designed tool that frees operators from unnecessary processes and routines.
Why is such a central user interface so crucial for control room operations?
Rafael Paltian: Because it significantly reduces the amount of effort required to operate the system. Without an integrated solution, operators would have to constantly switch between multiple programmes or workstations. In critical situations, this costs valuable time. With a consolidated platform, a single glance is enough to capture all relevant information. Prioritised events are quickly identified and measures can be initiated with just a few actions. In addition, special tools such as our PixelDetection® monitoring software can automatically detect changes in defined image areas and actively alert the operator.
So the applications not only ensure a high level of operational reliability, but also increase response speeds?
Rafael Paltian: They offer a real advantage in terms of safety and speed. When all data is clearly structured and presented in a visually comprehensible manner, operators can respond more quickly and accurately. Event prioritisation, automatic alerts and solutions such as our PixelDetection® reduce the risk of overlooking important changes. The team in the control room can often take proactive action before a deviation actually escalates into an incident.
As a specialist in modern control room solutions, Rafael Paltian knows how important software tools are for the performance of the control center. His tip: When choosing, look for individual configuration options and intuitive handling! This allows to achieve maximum ease of use through the clear and structured display of all processes.
Many control rooms operate continuously in shifts. What does this mean for choosing the right software?
Rafael Paltian: It must be designed for continuous operation – in other words, it must be stable, fail-safe and redundant. This applies not only to the hardware, but also to the software architecture. Automated backups, failover functions and regular integrity checks are essential here. In addition, smart access concepts such as JST myLogin® are extremely helpful when several operators use the same infrastructure in shift operation. This innovative application enables fast, personalised login and logout at every workstation.
Smart login management in the workplace therefore provides additional convenience when staffing levels change. Are there any other advantages that a software solution can offer here?
Rafael Paltian: A uniform access system such as JST myLogin® simplifies everyday life in the control room and makes operating the systems significantly safer. Instead of complicated passwords or multi-step logins, transponders or chip cards are sufficient to automatically log in to all relevant applications. This saves time during shift changes and reduces errors. At the same time, clear user rights are ensured, as only authorised persons have access to critical functions. Ultimately, it is possible to trace exactly who performed which actions and when. This is an important point for audits and security protocols.
From your perspective: what characterises a process-oriented software solution in the control room?
Rafael Paltian: ‘Process-oriented’ means that the software is consistently adapted to the work processes. Not the other way around! Every control room has different priorities. That’s why it’s important that workflows, layouts and user interfaces can be customised. There are also significant differences in the number of systems monitored in control rooms. It is therefore helpful if monitoring is also carried out automatically on screens that are not currently visible. PixelDetection® is perfect for this. Deviations or image changes are reported within seconds.
Automation is therefore playing an increasingly important role in modern control rooms. How does JST’s ControlRoom Automation concept work in practice?
Rafael Paltian: It is true that automation is becoming more and more important in the control room. It simplifies routine tasks and reduces the workload for the operator. With ControlRoom Automation, recurring processes can be easily defined and called up at the touch of a button or via a touch display; for example, source switching, layout changes or alarm responses. Complex scenarios can be triggered with a single command, without the need for cumbersome manual steps. Optionally, the software can also perform certain tasks completely automatically. This creates a perfect balance: maximum ease of operation with full control over all processes.
Finally, what is your forecast for the coming years? What trends will digital progress bring?
Rafael Paltian: We are going to see even more automation and assistance functions. Artificial intelligence will take over routine tasks, make predictions and give recommendations for action. Adaptive interfaces will further improve ease of use because they adapt to usage habits. In the long term, the control room will become a highly networked ecosystem that ideally relieves the burden on humans without replacing them.

This digital “sleuth” detects every fault in the control center
Deviations, errors, system failures – all of these are part of everyday business in control rooms. It is not uncommon for operators to receive hundreds of alerts in a single shift. The key is to set the right priorities. This is where the PixelDetection® monitoring software comes into play. The smart tool scans patterns in the background and ‘sorts’ deviations into predefined escalation levels.
Thanks to intelligent filter and analysis functions, only relevant warning messages are sent. This helps to prevent “alarm fatigue” among operators. Depending on the prioritisation of alerts, notification chains or automated measures such as triggering orders or maintenance requests can also be initiated.

Effective sound absorber with alarm function: OPAL X11®
This practical solution measurably reduces noise pollution caused by sound: the acoustic ceiling sail OPAL X11® not only acts as an effective sound absorber in the control center. It also optimizes lighting during shift work and can be used as a source for audiovisual alarms if required.
When alarms seem to magically switch on
Computers and cameras that switch on automatically as if by magic in the event of an alarm? In combination with special interfaces, the DisplayWalls from JST make such event-controlled scenarios possible. Another advantage: the entire team is alerted at the same time. No alarm is lost!
Right of way for safety with innovative software from JST
We pay the utmost attention to the topic of “security”. Based on nearly 30 years of experience, JST has developed software solutions that enable automatic, event-controlled alarm functions (PixelDetection®) on the one hand and convenient login and logout via chip card (myLogin®) on the other.
How to decrease stress levels for employees in control centers
Efficient, secure and convenient! With JST MultiStreaming® it is possible to significantly reduce stress factors in the control center. Switch any source to any desired monitor, only one mouse and keyboard per workstation, better climate thanks to outsourced hardware are just some of the advantages.
Simplified handling for all sources in the control center
A user interface in which the control center operators can easily find their way around. An interface that reflects the operator’s own control room as a 3D layout. On this basis, the JST developers have designed myGUI®, a platform that offers simplified access to the handling of all systems.
